RaPAL Journal 105:

‘International Lessons: from Lockdown to Women’s Literacy’

We are excited that RaPAL’s next edition, Journal 105 will have a dual theme. Our first theme is ‘International Lessons from Lockdown’. This theme offers opportunities to explore how teaching and learning practices in literacy provision have been developed, in both in/formal forms, in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. As well as welcoming contributions from the UK, we are particularly interested in hearing from individuals and organisations around the world so that we can learn from one another as an international literacy community and to share inspiring practice.

Our second theme is ‘International Lessons from Women’s Literacy’. As this edition ties in around the time of International Women’s Day, with month-long international events, we are keen to have broad contributions on this theme: from experiences of literacy practice with women around the world, to research in this field, to stories of inspirational women in the field of literacy.

For this issue we welcome diverse interpretations of our dual theme, from wide-ranging educational and social contexts. These could explore, although are not limited to, aspects of the following:

  • ‘International literacy lockdown lessons’
  • ‘Informal literacies inside and outside the home during lockdown’
  • ‘International research and practice in women’s literacies’
  • ‘Stories of inspiring women in literacy practice around the world: past and present’

We encourage contributions from teachers, learners, researchers, and anyone else involved in literacies, from both new and experienced writers. We welcome a variety of formats with possibilities including:

  • An extended academic discussion (this will be peer-reviewed)
  • A reflective piece in text, audio or visual form on your experience of teaching or learning of literacies in different spaces.
  • An innovative idea you have tried in the classroom or beyond communicated through text, audio, or video.
  • A poem, narrative, or other visually creative piece to represent or demonstrate the meaning of literacies to a specific audience.

If you require further information on writing for the journal, please see the RaPAL journal (https://rapal.org.uk) or contact one of us to discuss your ideas.

Please send first drafts by Tuesday 8th March 2022 (International Women’s Day) at the latest, and ideally earlier, particularly when they are peer reviewed pieces. Please send a copy of your draft to two of our editors as soon as you are able to at the email addresses below.
